While working as the handover manager (CAPEX TO OPEX) for a new terminal in a major hub airport, Malcolm, the founder and CEO of Strategic Maintenance Ltd (SML), witnessed the challenges the airport faced when bringing a significant number of new assets into the asset management (AM) process.
While developing the processes and requirements for the maintenance team, the lack of understanding of AM practices became apparent and appeared to be common within many organisations. Identifying a gap in the market, Malcolm drew on his 35 years of knowledge and experience in plant operations and AM practices to develop the asset management processes and knowledge base that are still in place today.
In 2006, the asset management company SML was created with the sole purpose of helping organisations bring their AM processes and practices into the 21st century. SML has been delivering asset management services in a broad range of industries and environments ever since, empowering our clients to improve their operations, reduce their costs and become more profitable.

A little about Malcolm...
Drawing on his 35 years of experience across numerous industries, Malcolm established SML in 2006 and now consults on maintenance management, project delivery and business strategy. He leads SML by ensuring that our client’s expectations are always met (our core goal) and guides SML’s overall business direction.

A little about Ben...
As an experienced engineer and professional educator, Ben combines his qualifications to co-ordinate the training arm of the business. He also consults in asset management and produces data-driven performance analytics. All of these activities are aligned with the clients business performance and supporting their overall goal.

Ashton has a solid background in Business Transformation and Asset Engineering. He uses that to develop processes and analytical solutions that report on asset performance to assist our clients in minimising asset lifecycle costs, improve their business performance and support their overall goals.
